I’m your host, Ty Benjamin, and I want to help you become the very best version of yourself at home.

The question is, are you ready?

Hello, hello, and happy new year!

Welcome to another episode of the Confidently Growing At Home Podcast. This episode is entitled 2022, The Year To Get Out of Your Own Way.

So I don’t know about you, but for me, 2021 went by faster than any other year.

And some of the highlights for me personally in 2021 were that my family and I, relocated to Virginia to work and serve with an awesome congregation in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Our move to Virginia also brought me closer to my mom, and so I was able to see her multiple times in 2021.

What else? Let’s see…

I finally got some answers to a health scare that started back in 2020, but I’m relieved to know that it’s not what the doctors thought it once was.

And honestly, I mean, truthfully, I feel more comfortable in the skin I’m in more than ever before.

And of course with the New Year comes New Year’s resolutions.

You know, but it’s been said that less than 10% of people who set a resolution actually keep it.

But in 2022, I’m making a commitment to myself to become growth-focused and create goals that will help me to grow in the most important areas of my life.

And I would love for you to join me in this because I believe that creating a growth mindset will help us to achieve any other goal we may set for ourselves.

So think or reflect on this real quick…

Imagine your life one year from now.

What if everything in your life is exactly the same as it is right now?

Your relationships with your spouse and your children, your spiritual walk with the Lord, your homeschooling, your health, your fitness, how you spend your time, your finances, fill in the blank…

If nothing changed from how it is today, how would that make you feel?

How would it make you feel?

I think for most moms, even though they may be happy on the surface, not growing over the years can lead to unhappiness or even feelings of failure.

You see one of our needs as moms, as human beings on a spiritual level, is growth.

And you’ve probably heard the phrase if you’re not growing, you’re dying…

So how would you feel if nothing changed?

The future you, the future me, starts with today…with right now.

And so that’s why I’ve themed 2022 as the year to get out of your own way…

But how do we do that?

How do we get out of our own way so that we can flourish and grow as moms?

Well, let’s talk about a few ideas that I have.

1. move beyond your limiting beliefs

Move beyond your limiting beliefs.

You know, limited thinking or those limiting beliefs can definitely hinder your growth and your self-improvement.

Unfortunately, I think we can all attest to struggling with self-doubt and lack of confidence at times.

It was Charles Schwab who once said that,

“When a man [or a woman in our case] has put a limit on what he will do, he has put a limit on what he can do.”

The greatest limitations you’ll ever experience in life will most likely be the ones you impose on yourself.

It’s been said that “It isn’t what you are that holds you back, it’s what you think you’re not.”

I highly recommend taking the time to identify the self-limiting beliefs that you want to change and decide how you want to show up in life – meaning how you want to be, act, and feel.

2. Build Your self-image

Having low self-esteem puts a ceiling on your potential and your growth, and you’ll never be able to outperform your self-image.

I read one time that if you put a small value on yourself, rest assured the world would not raise the price.

Hmm, that’s a serious quote, ain’t it?

But it’s so easy sometimes to be hypercritical of ourselves and our shortcomings.

We can sometimes nitpick ourselves to death, whether it’s how we keep up with the housework or how we choose to homeschool.

What we see when we look in the mirror or that common reducing phrase, I’m just a mom and wife, like being a mom and wife isn’t a whole lot in and of itself.

In order to change how you see yourself, you have to change how you talk to yourself.

Monitoring your negative self-talk and becoming your own encourager and cheerleader is key to being able to recognize your worth and importance.

But not only that, it’s important for us to make sure that we are tapped into the source of encouragement, of love, of validation.

It’s important to remember who is able to do any and all things and who is ultimately in control.

So make sure to open up God’s word and let Him tell you just how precious you are and how important you are to your family and His Kingdom…because frankly, sometimes we forget.

With all the hustle and bustle of life, we forget that we have a source of life, light, and nourishment for our souls that’s always there waiting for us.

When you get the time, I want you to study and meditate on passages like Gen 1:27; Romans 12; Psalms 139:13-16; Matt 6:25-34; and Rom 5:8.

3. Practice Small discplines daily

Doesn’t it feel so good when you do things on your to-do list the day you were supposed to do them?

But doesn’t it feel even better when you do things you were supposed to do, even though you didn’t feel like doing them?

Humph, talk about a morale builder, right?

Talk about a self-esteem booster.

Your self-worth is founded upon positive habits, actions, and decisions you make every single day.

And so boost your head up a little bit by taking small steps that will take you in a positive, direct.

But not only that learn to celebrate the small wins, the small victories.

Take some time to celebrate YOU!

Even if it’s just a high five to yourself – celebrating encourages you.

Don’t underestimate its power.

And lastly, for our year of getting out of our own way, you must be willing to…

4.Take responsibility for your life

Listen, mom, you matter.

You have worth.

You have influence.

You are talented.

You are loved by many and especially by God.

But it’s up to you to pursue a life of growth and change…

No matter what kind of background you have or where you come from,

No matter what traumas you’ve suffered or mistakes you’ve made,

You can learn, grow, and become the person you have the potential to be…

become the mom you have the potential to be, the wife, the homemaker, the, whatever it is, fill in the blank…

You are in control of how you’re going to show up and how much you’re going to grow over this year.

You just need to believe that you can to get started.

So let’s celebrate this new year, 2022, a year of growth, of discovering and unlocking our potential, and a year to get out of our own way.

God bless.
